One of the aims of this series is to overturn a certain order of things through the use of symbolic hierarchies. The summoned imagery is this subverted: the luxurious silks of Lyon become faded cartoon strips; machine tools are used as decorative items on a wallpaper; the floral plates of Indochina form the background for a grimacing mask; the tools of the peasantry are used as the background for an image built like the warning posters hung in factories; the containers used for domestic tasks give rhythm to an avant-garde choreography.
These elements evoke different daily lives: between the enjoyment of beautiful luxury objects and the tools of peasant or working-class labour, the allocation of tasks to one gender rather than another, the separation of the world between those who have power and those who do not.
